FORT MYERS, Fla. — In light of several recent abduction attempts in Fort Joseph Saitta, the owner of C.O.B.R.A self defense in Fort Myers, showed 4 in Your Corner a variety of ways a child or adult can escape from someone who approaches them.

After several recent attempted abductions in Fort Myers, Saitta said it's important for everyone to be aware of your surroundings, because you never think something like this will happen until it happens to you.

The first thing a child, or anyone, should do if someone approaches them is scream or make noise. Saitta says most of the time, criminals are lazy and don't want to have to work hard for what they want.

Child Abduction Prevention classes teach kids about who can be a threat, how to respond to a threat and abduction prevention techniques. Saitta says it basically boils down to teaching kids what to do and what not to do. He says repetition when training is important, so a child or adult doesn't freeze up when a scenario like this happens.

In the videos attached, you can see a few different techniques you can use, such as the wrist escape. C.O.B.R.A Self Defense in Fort Myers has a variety of training classes.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said nearly 2,000 attempted abductions occurred in 2018.
