PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- A death investigation is underway in Charlotte County after a young child's body was found in a pond.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 31000 block of Washington Loop Road around 4:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a missing child.
Prior to their arrival though, the 2-year-old's body was found in a pond on the family's property.
EMS responded to the scene, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
There is still an active investigation in progress.
