NAPLES, Fla. -- Naples City Council voted on Wednesday to move forward with a controversial parking garage in downtown Naples.

The council approved a new purchase agreement for the third garage, which is planned to be constructed at the corner of Fourth Avenue South and Fourth Street South. The council agreed to purchase $4.6 million of land, but the landowner must still approve the offer.

Some business owners say it will be good for the area, but others believe it would increase traffic problems and is too close to another garage on Fourth Street.

The project could cost as much as $14 million.
