City leaders discuss Cape Coral Charters Schools and funding

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — All Cape Coral Charter Schools have A-plus ratings not only in Southwest Florida but the US News & World Report ranks its high schools as the top 2% in the country.

“We are the top-performing schools in Lee County, our elementary schools are number 1 and 2, our middle school ranks 2nd, and our high school ranks 4th,” says Jacquelin Collins, City of Cape Coral Charter Schools Superintendent.

Parents came out to express their concerns regarding the possible closing of the Charter Schools in the area.

One parent says these schools are instrumental in the development of both of her children.

President of the Cape Coral Charter Foundation says he’s seen a clear difference between charter and public schools, hopes to keep these schools up and running.

“I love charter schools for my kids because they tend to breed family involvement more than your typical county school” Gary Cerny, parent and President of Cape Coral Charter Foundation.

Superintendent of the Cape Coral Charter Schools says today’s meeting went better than expected, and she is not concerned about the future of charter schools here in Cape Coral.

The vote is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

The community has made a strong case for the continuation of Charter Schools in the area, and city council members have seemed to agree.
