Collier County Commissioners vote against a mask mandate

NAPLES — Collier County Commissioners voted against implementing a "mask mandate" on Tuesday in a split 3-2 vote.

Commissioner Andy Solis and Chairman Burt Saunders were the two dissenting votes.

More than 170 people signed up to comment on the issue Tuesday morning, on both sides of the issue.

“I’m an essential worker, and we have to wear a mask. So if I can do it for 8 hours at a retail, why can’t you do it for 15 minutes?” said Christopher Charlestin.

“Everybody has the right to make medical decisions for themselves. There is not 100% agreement on whether or not masks help stop the spread, nor whether or not masks are harmful," said Kelly Yahl, who held signs with her friends outside the meeting protesting the proposed mandate.
