COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A Collier County man is in jail after deputies say he shot a woman in her sleep while he was intoxicated.
According to an arrest report Jose Alfredo Garanza-Garcia, 29, and the victim share a duplex on Holland Street. The victim was asleep in bed on her side of the duplex shortly before 10 p.m. Garanza-Garcia was in his bedroom on the other side of the duplex.
After consuming beers, Garanza-Garcia loaded his pistol and shot off a round that went through the wall and struck the victim in her abdomen.
There were several other bullet holes in the wall, but none of them penetrated through. It was unknown when the bullet holes were made, reports said.
The victim was transported to the hospital where she was treated for her wound.
Deputies placed Garanza-Garcia under arrest and transported him to the Collier County jail, where he was booked on felony charges.
Following his arrest, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer was placed on Garanza-Garcia through ICE’s 287(g) program. ICE lodges detainers on individuals arrested on criminal charges who ICE has probable cause to believe are removable aliens.
Garanza-Garcia is charged with shooting a missile into an occupied dwelling and Use of a Firearm While Under the Influence of Alcohol.
