Collier County Sheriff's Office retired K9 passes away

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.-- A beloved retired Collier County K9 has passed away.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office says 14-year-old K9 Bandit died peacefully next to his handler Sgt. William Gifford on Saturday morning.

K9 Bandit started his career with the Sheriff's Office in 2008 as a narcotics detection K9. He later became a dual purpose K9 in patrol and narcotics. 

K9 Bandit was responsible for several arrests and helped deputies seize over a million dollars worth of narcotics and money. He assisted state and federal agencies with narcotic investigations.

K9 Bandit retired in 2014 due to his age and health.
