COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A Collier County man is behind bars, accused of shooting and killing his wife, Victoria Lynne Colon, 49, in the driveway of their home in Golden Gate Estates. Raymond Colon, 52, is charged with second-degree murder after witnesses told deputies they saw Colon with a gun soon after hearing shots Sunday afternoon on 41st Avenue Northeast.
"There are never any shots out here, so that's what alarmed us," said one neighbor who asked not to be identified. "Later, we (found out that) it was Victoria that had gotten shot."
According to a report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived on the scene, neighbors said they saw Raymond Colon walking down the driveway with a gun, before getting into a Ford Escape and driving away.
But he didn't go very far. According to the report, Colon had turned around and parked behind a deputy's patrol car at the scene. A neighbor then told deputies that the man they were looking for was right behind them.
Colon was immediately taken into custody. His wife Victoria was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
At Raymond Colon's first court appearance Monday, a judge ordered that he be held without bond. Colon's next court date is set for January 2.
