Collier Sheriff debuts new rescue helicopter

Posted

NAPLES, Fla. -- The Collier County Sheriff's Office welcomed a new helicopter to its fleet Tuesday.

It'll used in search and rescue missions as well as wildfire battles.

The $400,000 chopper, a Bell UH-1H "Huey", was built in 1968, and it was actually used during the Vietnam War. But it's since been upgraded.

The upgrades included new floors, upholstery, intercom system, hoist, cargo hook and video cameras as well as a new paint job sporting the green, gold and white found in the CCSO’s logo.

The craft can safely carry eight to 10 people and up to 4,000 pounds.
