NORTH CAPE CORAL, Fla — A new intersection is raising concerns for some people living in North Cape Coral.
It's been three days since people in North Cape Coral have begun to use the newly constructed segment of Littleton Road.
And some people say the traffic shift is making their daily commute a nightmare.
Paul Stuart lives close by the intersection.
"Now it's dangerous, twice as dangerous as it was before," Stuart said.
"And I believe they need to reevaluate the situation."
The traffic shift is the result of the Littleton Road widening project. The project connects Kismet Parkway to Littleton Road, shifting traffic to use the intersection of NE 24th Ave and Kismet Parkway.
Stuart says the intersection is lacking some safety measures.
"I believe, and I know a lot of people feel the same way, they definitely need to make it a 4-way stop or put in a stoplight," Stuart says.
Right now, there are stop signs at the intersection for drivers on NE 24th Ave but not Kismet Parkway.
Stuart says the direct shot has drivers speeding down Kismet Parkway.
"Getting across 4-lanes is nearly impossible certain times a day — early in the morning and late in the evening when everybody is getting home," Stuart says.
The project also includes a roundabout at the Littleton Road and Corbett Road intersection.
Jennifer Dorning, with Atkins, the consultant company for the widening project, says the project was designed to keep traffic moving.
"We just want drivers to be aware of the changes, to use caution when they're out there because this is new for everybody.," Dorning says.
"That is set up to be a two way stop to keep the traffic flow moving on Littleton and Kismet."
But Dorning says the county will continue to monitor how the intersection is working.
"Lee County is always going to make the intersection is functioning as safe as possible, and it's as best as it can be for drivers," Dorning says.
As for Stuart, he wants to see something done to make it safer.
"To be able to get out of here in peace and not worry about dying in the process," Stuart says.
"I have a baby in the car, and the last thing I need is to get into an accident."
The county says the project is not complete yet, and the signal light at the roundabout is temporary.
The project should be completed by mid-December.
