CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Port Charlotte couple are facing numerous charges after investigators say they stole copper wiring from several construction sites.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, over 670 feet of copper wiring has been stolen from four sites over the past week.

But a scrap of paper at one crime scene was the break investigators needed to make the arrests.

A receipt bearing the name of 23-year-old Logan Morris was found at one of the crime scenes.  That led investigators to her boyfriend, 28-year-old Berry Scott, Jr.

They say Scott exchanged the stolen copper wire at Allied Recycling for cash, providing false identification.

Morris is charged with Burglary, Grand Theft, and Violation of Probation. Scott is charged with Burglary, Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property, and providing False ID to Secondary Metals Recycler.

Suspicious activity at construction sites should be reported to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office by dialing 941-639-0013.
