FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Hundreds of customers waited in line for hours to get in the doors for the grand opening of a new Whole Foods store Wednesday morning.

The first five hundred customers received gift cards ranging from $5 to $500.

"We were expecting a large turnout, but we had no idea this many people would be coming to shop," said team leader Jonny Rose.  "In order to be sold at our stores, there can't be any artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives, so we do the homework for our shoppers."

Another unique element to the store is a chocolate salon. Chocolatier and pastry chef Norman Love created menu items that haven't been seen anywhere else.  "We're doing breakfast sandwiches and we're doing pancakes and waffles, savory crepes…so a lot of things that we don't ordinarily do in our other stores, we are offering here at Whole Foods," said Love.

The new store is located on Daniels Parkway at 6 Mile Cypress Parkway.

This is the second Whole Foods location in Southwest Florida. The other is in Naples.
