Dead fish smell hovering over Vanderbilt Beach

Collier County officials say they are cleaning up dead fish from Red Tide, but have to deposit the dead fish in county dumpsters.

One of the dumpsters is next to the Vanderbilt Beach Road parking garage, just a block from the ocean.

"I think that the most offensive thing is to have to walk through that in a garage, in a place called Naples," said Jackie Rosenberg of Naples.

The county says the dumpsters are emptied every two days, but some say the smell lingers long afterwards.

"They were burying them over there, I could smell it over there," said Steve Hayes, who is visiting from Boston.

A county spokesperson says the contractor is responsible for cleaning the dumpsters after they are emptied.
