Death penalty sought in case of missing Lee County girl

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- State Attorney's Office announced Friday the have filed notice of their intent to seek the death penalty for Jorge Manuel Guerrero Torres.

Guerrero Torres has been charged with First Degree Murder, Kidnaping, and Lewd or Lascivious Molestation in the case of Diana Alvarez, the 9-year-old San Carlos Park girl who went missing in 2016.

The charges were filed on May 3rd, 2018 and Torres was arraigned on May 7th.

He remains in custody on no bond.

Alvarez went missing from her home in June 2016.  An Amber Alert was issued, but she was never found.

Guerrero Torres, a family friend and former roommate of the family, was quickly identified as a suspect and arrested on child porn charges.
