PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Investigators announce Monday that the two bodies found in a Port Charlotte home last Thursday evening were the result of a murder-suicide.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a welfare check was requested at the Gardner Drive home of 60-year-old Randy Lewis, when nobody was able to reach 43-year-old Emily Turner, who had gone the Lewis' home earlier that evening.

Deputies received no answer at the front door, so they looked in the windows and found the bodies of both people on the bedroom floor.

Upon entry, it was evident that no life-saving measures were necessary.

Investigators determined that Lewis had shot Turner with a firearm before shooting himself.
