Charlotte County spokesperson retires after 29 years of service

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. --- A first responder celebrated her last day on the job with a celebration Tuesday.

Dee Hawkins-Garland has served the last 29 years as a Fire & EMS Public Information Officer, Educator, Relations Coordinator and Lead Public Information Officer for Emergency Management. 

She began her career at Charlotte County Fire & EMS in 1989 as an Emergency Medical Technician. Just within 2 years, Hawkins-Garland, was promoted to being a Paramedic. 

In November 2000, she was assigned the duties of Public Information Officer, Public Education and Public Relations Coordinator. Her responsibilities included public information and media relations, fire and injury prevention program and material design, etc. 

She was joined today by her colleagues Tuesday as they said their final "see you laters."
