Department of Justice announces public safety funding in Southwest Florida

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Millions of dollars from federal funding will go towards helping to keep our state and community safe by reducing crime.

The Department of Justice announced that $14.4 million will support public safety in Florida.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office will get $101,000.

The cities of Cape Coral and Fort Myers, and Charlotte and Collier counties are also getting money.

The money will support several initiatives, including sex offender registration and notification, law enforcement-based victim services, and sexual assault kits.
