Collier County Sheriff's deputies conducted a manhunt for a suspect in Golden Gate Estates Friday morning that lasted for several hours, but did not locate the suspect.
It happened around 7 a.m. on 12th Avenue Southeast near DeSoto Boulevard, when deputies responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle. When they approached the truck parked on 12th Avenue SE, a man in the vehicle jumped out and fled on foot into the nearby woods.
A search involving K-9 units and a helicopter began soon after, with deputies searching sheds and other structures along the street.
"I was concerned," said Cris Matesz, who lives on 12th Avenue. He said that he asked a deputy what was happening. "He just told me to lock my doors."
Sean Meyers, another neighbor on 12th Avenue, said she was at work in Naples when her daughter called to tell her there were deputies at their house.
"They asked permission to come on," Meyers said. "They did mention there was a (suspect who) had tattoos on his face."
