LEE COUNTY, FLA — I-75 Northbound between Colonial Boulevard and Daniels Parkway is now open after being closed for hours Saturday night, due to a fatal traffic crash.

Florida Highway Patrol says a 20-year-old male of Palm Beach Gardens was traveling south on I-75 in a pickup truck when he crossed the grass median and collided with the cable barrier. The driver then entered the northbound lanes of I-75 and collided with the front of a sedan.

The pickup truck overturned on the right side and came to rest on the northbound lanes of I-75. The sedan came to rest on the grass shoulder.

The 20-year-old male, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The 40-year-old female of Punta Gorda driving the sedan was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
