On Saturday evening deputies responded to shots fired at the intersection of Homer Ave and 2nd St SW.
Paul Peterson, 28, was laying on the street suffering from multiple gun shot wounds, according to deputies.
Deputies on scene assisted in lifesaving measures until EMS transported the victim to Lee Memorial Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite efforts, Peterson did succumb to his injuries.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived to assume the investigation.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional press releases as more information becomes available.
The investigation remains active and appears to be an isolated incident.
