COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A kitten is recovering in a foster home after being struck by a semi-truck last week.
Cpl. Carver of the Collier County Sheriff's Office says that last Thursday he was on patrol in a rural section of the county near County Line Road and C.R. 846, east of Immokalee. He says as a semi-truck passed going the other way, he noticed an object blow out from under the truck and realized it was a kitten.
He believes the driver likely did not see the kitten.
Cpl. Carver captured the little guy, wrapped him in a towel and took him to Collier Domestic Animal Services where the shelter vet determined the cat had abrasions on its face and eyelids and would need surgery to reattach his lip, which had suffered a major tear.
The surgery was a success, and now DAS Director Darcy Andrade herself is fostering the lucky cat in her very own home. "I think he's mostly out of the woods," Andrade said.
If all goes well, this kitten will be up for adoption very soon.
Andrade has named him Rusty.
