A Collier County Sheriff's Office deputy shot a dog after the animal reportedly attacked him.
The deputy responded to a home located on Coastal Bay Circle after a man was served with an injunction and forced to leave, CCSO said in a statement.
Upon arrival, a large mixed breed dog escaped from a room in the house and bit the deputy in the left arm. The deputy issued multiple verbal commands for the owner to control the dog, but the animal escaped his grasp and lunged onto the deputy's chest, CCSO said.
The dog's second bite was to his body armor.
The deputy continued to issue verbal commands to the owner to restrain the animal but the dog escaped a third time and luged towards the deputy's face, at which time the deputy shot the dog, CCSO said in a statement.
The owner of the dog transported the animal to a veterinarian the the injured deputy drove himself to a hospital to seek medical attention.
