Dozens gather in Cape Coral for National Crime Victims' Rights Week

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla--Sunday afternoon dozens of SWFL residents gathered at Rotary Park to remember their loved ones. The event is part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week

“I don’t want to be part of this club, none of you do, we didn’t sign up for this," said Judy Walters.

Walters' son Sean was murdered in June 2016 while working at Circle K in Cape Coral. Walters spoke to the crowd on Sunday reminding other families the loss of a family member doesn't take away the title of mom, dad, brother, or sister.

“On that day I thought I stopped being a mom, and what I’ve learned in the past 10 months is I’m still a mom, I’m always a mom, I’m always going to be Sean's mom," said Walters.

Walters went on to say she hopes other families going through similar situations will remember the three words part of this year's theme: strength, resilience and justice.
