NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.-- A semi-truck driver is in the hospital after crashing on North Tamiami Trail.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday just north of Tara Boulevard, and involved a truck carrying sod.

Traffic was shut down in the area for about three hours as crews cleaned up.

Deputies on scene said the driver was taken from the scene, but did not say how severe their injuries were.

They did not say what caused the crash.

The median in the area was significantly torn up as well.

Deputies say the Department of Transportation will replant and fix the landscaping, with the trucker's insurance likely paying the bill.
