CAPE CORAL, Fla — A man is now facing multiple charges, including DUI Manslaughter, after a car was found in a canal in Cape Coral overnight.
Cape Coral Police arrested Kyran Anthony Montes.
Investigators say Montes and Alex Patrick Pratt were in a car traveling northbound on Sanbara Blvd N at a high rate of speed.
They say Montes was the driver, and he continued driving past the dead-end at Wilmington Pkwy and entered the vacant lot.
Investigators say his car then swerved right and began rotating clockwise and continued traveling sideways northbound through the vacant.
The car eventually struck the elevated canal bank and went into the canal.
When officers arrived, they found the car completely underwater.
Montes left the scene on foot and was found nearby the crash, investigators say.
He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Cape Coral Fire Department divers were able to locate Pratt, who was still inside the car submerged underwater.
Pratt was pulled from the car and pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators say Alcohol, drugs, and speed are all factors in this crash.
Montes is also charged with DUI Property Damage, Fleeing and Eluding, Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash, and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.
His bond has been set at $180,000.
