CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A Colorado man has been charged with DUI Manslaughter after a fatal motorcycle crash on Pine Island Road Tuesday.

The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday west of Chiquita Boulevard, in front of the German  American Club.

According to a Cape Coral Police report, 54-year-old David McDonough of Pagosa Springs, Colorado was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Pine Island Road and attempted to turn left as a westbound motorcycle approached.

Police say McDonough turned into the path of the motorcycle, causing it to crash into the passenger side door of the truck.

The motorcycle driver was critically injured in the crash and taken to Cape Coral Hospital, where they passed away from their injuries.  Their identity has not been released yet.

Officers at the scene say McDonough smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and unsteady balance, and lost control of his bowels.  He refused to participate in a roadside sobriety test, but was arrested and had blood drawn at the scene for testing.

He was then booked into the Lee County Jail.

Officers also noted the pickup truck's cab was completely full of items from the floor up to dashboard height, leaving "no possibility that more than the driver could be seated inside the vehicle."
