FORT MYERS, Fla. — A student at at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School, 4750 Winkler Ave. Ext., was arrested today for making school threats over social media.

The following notice was sent to parents explaining what transpired:

Good afternoon Eagles,

In the spirit of open communication, we want to let you know an anonymous threat against our school was posted on social media today.

The Fort Myers Police Department immediately provided extra security, started an investigation and quickly identified and arrested the student alleged to be responsible.

The threat was not credible. Students were never in danger. Teaching and learning continued as normal today.

We take this kind of behavior very seriously and will not tolerate it at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School. There are both potential legal and educational consequences for the student involved.

Thank you to those who notified of us of the post so we could so quickly respond and thank you for trusting us today with your child.
