Dunbar technology students graduating with high hopes

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A day before Dunbar High School seniors graduate, 4 In Your Corner spoke to students who are part of a prestigious program that is giving them a leg up as they start their careers.

Dunbar's technology academy is the nation's first Microsoft certified high school. The program allows students to get technology industry certifications as early as freshman year. "They've got this thirst for knowledge," said Information Technology teacher Mark Dunaway. "Not all of them are college bound. Some of them want to go right into the industry."

Graduating senior Logan Burns believes he will attend college somewhere down the road. But for now, he has a prominent role at the I.T. department for top paying employer in Lee County, Chicos. He tells 4 In Your Corner he is working on some big projects for the company. "I'm working on fixing up every store's MEPS, and we have over 6,000 stores," he said.

He was able to attain the position because of his several technology certifications. Burns' advice to younger students: follow your passion, and don't be afraid to pursue what you are truly fascinated with. "The program has really changed my life in general," he said.
