UPDATE (10:30AM) -- Troopers say two people were thrown from their car early Friday morning in a collision on Tamiami Trail.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 1:43 a.m. the driver of a semi truck was headed southeast on Tamiami Trail, proceeding through the intersection at Sanibel Boulevard on a green light, when a car drove into the intersection from Sanibel Boulevard into the path of the truck.
The car was hit by the truck, causing the car to spin around and eject both occupants through the passenger window and into the side of the truck.
Both men were taken to Lee Memorial with critical injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Troopers say one of the men was intoxicated, and tests are pending for the other man. It is unclear which man was driving at this point.
Nobody in the truck was injured.
The case is still under investigation.

Details are very limited right now, but we do know the call came in at 1:44 a.m. Friday morning, and multiple crews responded to the scene.
