The front paneling of a home in Bonita Springs is now charred after a blazing fatal house fire. Neighbors described what they woke up to early Sunday in their normally tranquil community.
Lee County Deputies responded to a home at 26200 block of Squire Lane, east of imperial Harbor Boulevard, in Bonita Springs at approximately 5:54 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving a call regarding a house fire.
One of those neighbors was Robert Kull who saw the squad cars down the street from his house.
"I got up at about nine o clock this morning and took the dogs out and saw all the police activity and the fire trucks were here", he told Fox 4.
In addition to squad cars, there was a mobile command unit on scene as deputies responded to the fire on Squire Lane just before six in the morning. It wasn't long before their focus shifted to a body found on the property.
"We thought they took somebody away in an ambulance, but then we saw a body in the driveway", Cathy Giampa told Fox 4. She's the head of the neighborhood association and is shocked that anything like this could happen in her neighborhood.
The fact that she hasn't been able to get any information about th fire or the investigation has left her on edge.
"We don't feel safe right now…you know, we don't know what's going on", she told Four in Your Corner.
The investigation is still ongoing.
