FORT MYERS, Fla. — People from all over Southwest Florida lined the streets for the Edison Festival of Lights. This is the 82nd year the parade has lit up the night sky here in Fort Myers. Many different organizations strolled the streets on elaborate bright shining floats, including the our very own Fox 4 anchors Amy Wegman, Trent Eric, and our general manager Darryll Green. The Grand Marshall was Fort Myers native and Super Bowl champion, Sammy Watkins, locals were extremely excited to see their hometown hero

One man said, this has been a family tradition for many years.

“I’ve been here 24 years my whole life. It really is a tradition I’ve been in it, my dad has been in it, my brother has been in it, it’s been like a family tradition”, William Horth.

Also saying this history of the parade is important, honoring the life and work of Thomas Edison.

“It brings the community around a vocal point. It gives everyone something to be excited about to be with one another”, said Horth.

Another family agreed saying they enjoy the fact the city of Fort Myers honors Edison and his contributions.

“It means a lot, with Edison Estates being down here in the parade. I mean look at all of this support, there’s what 10s of thousands of people along these streets, so I’m sure it brings a lot of activity”, said Tracy Goodwin.

Adding they plan to return.

“It means a lot this is our first time , but we’re going to set a tradition for it,” said Goodwin.
