Education Secretary Betsy DeVos tours Southwest Florida schools

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Congressman Francis Rooney toured schools in Southwest Florida on Monday.

They made their first stop at Florida Southwestern State College in Fort Myers. The pair then visited Lake Park Elementary in Naples.

Their tours focused on education, job training and the STEM curriculum. Secretary DeVos says Florida is a pioneer when it comes to providing parents with a wide range of education opportunities for their children.

DeVos feels, "it's really instructive to come and help highlight some of the ways that this is happening and to encourage other states to perhaps emulate what Florida is doing in a big way."

This is the second time this year the Secretary of Education has visited our area. She visited after Hurricane Irma to see how Collier County schools were adjusting after the storm.
