SANIBEL, Fla. -- The City of Sanibel has begun putting 100 giant sandbags along the shoreline to help with beach erosion.

Four in Your Corner was there as crews put the sandbags just south of Blind Pass.

This is only a temporary fix until city council comes up with a permanent one.

Last month, we told you that the city issued a state of emergency over the erosion, which is threatening Sanibel-Captiva Road. A big concern is that the road is a primary evacuation route.

This is a vulnerable spot that was hit hard by Hurricane Michael.

The emergency funding for the project will cost about $38,000.
