GERMAIN ARENA, Fla., -- The Florida Everblades took a heartbreaking loss in the Kelly Cup Finals, losing 3-2 in Game 7 against the Colorado Eagles.
"It's like someone taking your Christmas presents and telling you Santa Claus doesn’t exist," said Kyle Neuber, Everblades Forward.
The Blades started the game off strong with a 1-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game. The Eagles came back fighting in the second period, tying the game. It wasn't until the third period that the Blades were able to take the lead again at 2-1.
Head Coach, Brad Ralph, says many mistakes were made and the team wasn't able to keep the momentum they gained.
“We put so much into this, those players they sacrificed so much to get us here, we’ll just regroup," said Ralph.
This is just the fifth time in 30 years the ECHL has had a game 7 and the first for the Everblades. The last time the Blades were champions was in 2012.
The team says players will head home and take a break for the next couple months.
