FORT MYERS, Fla. — A couple is recovering at Lee Memorial Hospital right now, after a shooting involving officers from the Fort Myers Police Department. Investigators say the husband shot the wife, before officers shot him.

One witness described the sound.

“We had a room full of customers this morning, and all of a sudden we heard a lot of fireworks, or what sounded like fireworks. By the time I turned around I seen it was lots of police”, said Will Cataln, sales manager at Diamond Cut Autos.

He says his customers were scared, and making matters worse, stray bullets hit his business.

“It did hit the building, we couldn't see where in the building, but one of the cars did get hit”, said Catalan.

In disbelief that they are now apart of the investigation.

“Somebody came, it looks like they put a sticker on where the bullet hole is, and then where they found the bullet they've got that marked off as well. They just don’t want nobody messing with it”, said Catalan.

Others say incidents like this are not uncommon.

“It’s 3 times now , it’s been 3 times and it’s sad, because the gun violence is becoming a big problem”, said Denise Dessin a bystander.

Dessin added she thinks this is a good area, but she'll be more cautious now when she's out with her family.
