CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A driver swerving to avoid a hog in the road reportedly led to a fatal crash early Monday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash on State Road 31 south of Bermont Road in Charlotte County just after 5:30 a.m.
Three vehicles were involved, including a semi-truck.
The driver of a pickup truck said he was traveling northbound when he had to swerve to avoid a hog in the road. According to FHP's incident report, he swerved left and into the southbound lane, colliding with a sedan.
The sedan was pushed into the center lane, where the semi-truck collided into the sedan.
The driver of the sedan, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the sedan was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
