FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A fatal crash along Daniels Parkway Thursday morning has left a Fort Myers man dead.
The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes at the intersection with Plantation Road, and involved a car and a dumpster hauler.
FHP tells Fox 4 that a trooper was at the scene of the crash when it happened and immediately responded. The trooper broke the driver-side window, and with the help of a civilian, the two were able to remove the driver from the vehicle in an effort to save his life.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Powell of Fort Myers.
The trooper sustained minor cuts in the process of helping the driver.
Two eastbound lanes were blocked at the scene for about two hours, but have since reopened.
