FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A fatal crash has closed westbound lanes of Gladiolus Drive in the South Fort Myers area.

The crash happened just before 8am Wednesday at the intersection with Bass Road.

The crash involved a Kia car and a pickup truck belonging to Lee County Parks and Recreation.  One female occupant in the Kia died at the scene.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol are on scene investigating and expect to be there for several hours.

Westbound traffic on Gladiolus is being routed onto southbound Bass Road.  Northbound traffic on Bass Road can only turn eastbound onto Gladiolus.

No other details are available in this developing story.  We'll update as we learn more.

**UPDATE (2pm)** -- Troopers have identified the deceased driver as 64-year-old Nilza Rodrigues of Fort Myers.

Troopers say Rodrigues was driving eastbound on Gladiolus and attempted to turn left on a red light.  Her Kia entered the path of an westbound truck with a green light.  The truck hit the right side of the car and spun it around.

Rodrigues died at the scene.

The truck's driver, 63-year-old David Mitchell of Fort Myers, was seriously injured and taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
