LEE COUNTY — UPDATE -- A man was killed on Sunday night while jogging along Pine Island Road.
Investigators identified the victim as Michael Johnson.
They say a car was traveling in the westbound lane near Santa Barbara Boulevard.
Johnson was jogging against traffic in the outside westbound shoulder when he was hit, according to investigators.
Detectives say the driver tried to help him, but he died at the scene.
UPDATE -- Pine Island road is open again after a fatal car accident blocked traffic late last night.
The westbound lanes of Pine Island Road near Santa Barbara Boulevard were closed after a person was killed walking across the road last night. Cape Coral police are now investigating, but traffic is open again.
