FDLE and the Fort Myers Police Department is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that took place late Saturday night.
While conducting a traffic stop in the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Highland Avenue at approximately 11:36 p.m., police say the driver, Berney Manuel McClellan,19, of Bonita Springs refused to stop and collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Michigan Avenue.
McClellan then pulled out a gun and opened fire on the officer. The officer returned fire striking the suspects in the fleeing vehicle.
Two occupants were apprehended while three others took flight, FMPD said.
After an extensive search, the other three suspects were located hiding inside a residence located at 1792 Raleigh Street.
McClellan, the suspect accused of firing a gun, was arrested. He is being charged with one count of attempted second degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in public and aggravated felony fleeing and eluding.
He remains in jail on no bond.
