CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- FEMA has approved money for Charlotte County to help cover the costs of debris removal in the wake of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

The county is set to receive $1,672,755 from the State of Florida as part of FEMA's Public Assistance Program.

The funds will reimburse the county for the collection, reduction, disposal and site management of debris within Charlotte County between October 18 and December 16, 2017 following the September 2017 storm.

During that time period, county workers and contractors gathered and hauled away 24,949 cubic yards of vegetative debris from rights of way and public property for landfill disposal.
