FGCU holds vigil for Parkland school shooting victims

Posted

Florida Gulf Coast University students gathered on campus Tuesday night for a vigil to honor the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

Jordan Moses, an FGCU student, said he graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2016. He said when he heard about the shooting, the "not knowing" was the worst part and he couldn't wait to rush back home.

"No student should ever be afraid to come to school," Moses said. "I’m not going to lie, when I came to class on Thursday, I felt nervous. Even though I knew I was so far away from what happened and the chances of it happening here were slim. But it was just the fact that I was 2 years removed from being in that building."

He said there are 91 Marjory Stoneman Douglas Alumni at FGCU.
