Fire, explosions prompt evacuations near drilling company in LaBelle

LABELLE, FLA. — UPDATE (9:23PM)-- The Hendry County Sheriffs Office has lifted the evacuation.

Florida Power and Light is reporting the electric is back on.

Fire responders from both Labelle and Alva trucks are preparing their equipment to leave the scene.


The Hendry County Sheriff's office is reporting a fire and multiple explosions at a business in LaBelle.

According to the Sheriff's Office's Facebook page this is happening at Centerline Directional Drilling at 900 South Elm Street.

Deputies are asking anyone within a half-mile radius of the site to evacuate until it is deemed safe to return.

Florida Power & Light was contacted to shut down power in the area as well.

There's been no reports of any injuries at this time.

According to Florida Power and Light's outage map, there are currently 1,268 customers without power.
