LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice is doing what it can to make sure kids understand how serious making school threats are.

They just kicked off a new school threat awareness campaign.

The "It's No Joke" campaign is aimed to discourage children from making school threats.

Students who make threats in person or online can be arrested and charged with a felony.

School threats across our state have risen over the past three years. During the 2016-2017 school year, 629 kids were charged. The next year, that number grew to 687. And last year, that number reached almost 800.

The state DOJ encourages all children, parents, and teachers to report all threats to local law enforcement.
