PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - The Florida Police Chiefs Association says they are paying close attention to the charges filed against Punta Gorda's Police Chief after the deadly Citizens Academy shooting last year.

Chief Tom Lewis is on administrative leave after Mary Knowlton was killed with a gun loaded with live ammunition instead of blanks.

The officer who pulled the trigger, Lee Coel, has been fired and is facing a felony.

The association says "We are closely monitoring the charges filed against Chief Tom Lewis in relation to this tragic accident. We are deeply concerned as to the implications this case could have for law enforcement leaders across the nation."
