There are more than 40,000 students at Florida State University, many of them are from Southwest Florida.
Students were alerted by email Monday that FSU would be closed through Friday, as Hurricane Michael approaches the region. No word yet if the Wake Forest-FSU game scheduled for 3:30 Saturday will be impacted by the storm.
"There are really long lines to the gas station and a lot of traffic right now," said FSU Sophomore Natalie Tremper of Cape Coral.
She's still deciding if she will stay in Tallahassee or evacuate ahead of the storm. Staying in town may not be an option.
"I know that for sure electricity and water will go out very easily, I don't know if it's because of the system they have, but that is definitely a worry," said Tremper.
Parents are also concerned about their students safety during this ordeal. Traci Friga says her daughter Hannah just left Cape Coral Sunday night, only to find out she may have to evacuate Tallahassee.
"I'm one of those emotional mothers, I'm nervous and scared."
Friga says her daughter wants to drive to Orlando, but doesn't want to leave until late in the evening when traffic dies down.
"She got her group together, she made her plan. She'll be fine. I just want her to get out of Tallahassee."
Florida A&M University is also closing its Tallahassee campus, Both universities will make food service available to students staying in the dorms.
