FORT MYERS, FLA — Fort Myers police are investigating after a shooting near a convenience store in Dunbar.

It happened around 9 p.m. Monday night outside of the D&D grocery store at the corner of MLK boulevard and Highland avenue.

Several people at the scene told Fox 4 that the victim is a local man, and added that he had been taken to a hospital for treatment.

Out crews watched as one woman began to pray and ask for an end to gun violence in the area.

She wanted to remain anonymous, but later shared that she knows the victim.

“Knowing him from the streets and coming to the house, I’m tried if it, I’m really tired of it. I’m frustrated. Dear heavenly father let these young boys know this is not the way," she said.

We're still waiting for FMPD to confirm these details and to give us more information about the incident and those responsible for it.

We'll be sure to update you as soon as we know more.

If you know anything about the shooting, you're asked to call FMPD at 239-321-7700 or SWFL Crimestoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
