FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Investigators have determined that the death of Riverdale high school football player Zachary Polsenberg was an accident, caused by hyperthermia due to heat exposure.

They say that no crime occurred in connection with the death.

In a series of statements released by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, all but one player or former player interviewed told authorities there were multiple water stations and they were given adequate water breaks. They also said Polsenberg carried a gallon jug with him at practice as they moved through drills and that when Polsenberg passed out, coaches began pouring cold water on him.

One former player told detectives that during the outdoor portion of the practice, players were given a short break, but declined water.

EMS crews say Polsenberg never regained consciousness during transport or at the hospital.
