FORT MYERS, Fla. — A former bait dog will now be the face of a new pet grooming salon coming to downtown Fort Myers.

Management at One Fort Myers announced Wednesday the salon will be named after Abigail the pitbull.

“I saw her story and I saw a dog who just needed recognition,” said Barbara Bengochea-Perez, director of marketing at One.

Abigail was rescued 2 years ago by a Southwest Florida organization after being nearly killed in a suspected dog fighting ring in Miami Dade County. She was found missing an ear, the side of her face ripped off.

“She had to endure a life of horror at the hands of some horrible monsters,” said Megan Contreras, Abigail’s owner. “She has gone through so much and has overcome so much. Just her bravery, courage and her will to survive got her to this point.”

The salon will be named ‘Abigail's Dog Grooming Salon’. Perez says One Fort Myers will be breaking ground this summer and the high rise is expected to be complete in 2019.
