FORT MYERS, Fla — Fort Myers native and former NFL player Mario Henderson has died at the age of 35.
Henderson played for the Oakland Raiders.
Before coming on to play at Florida State University and the NFL, the offensive tackle played at Bishop Verot and Lehigh Senior High School.
Fellow Seminole player and football coach at Lehigh Senior High School James Chaney tweeted his condolences earlier today.
He tells FOX 4 that the NFL is also reaching out to Henderson's family, who is still in Fort Myers.
"A lot of Florida State people are reaching out; a lot of local people are showing love. And Mario was just one of the nicest big 6'8" human beings that you can ever run across," Chaney says.
"And I'm really, really sad and along with thousands of others about the loss today."
The cause of Henderson's death has not been released.
